Biography

Anita Lomas is a natural fibre weaver and basketmaker, and the name behind much nita weaving. She loves to combine contemporary styles with traditional basketry techniques. She explores a variety of shapes, colour and texture when creating her pieces to showcase their natural beauty.

Anita’s handwoven pieces use a variety of materials. She weaves with dandelion stems, daffodils, daylily, iris and crocosmia leaves. All have considerable strength when woven together. When strength is key, more robust natural materials such as phormium flax leaves or willow bark are used.

Anita is a City and Guilds qualified basketmaker, after a long career in graphic design. Combining these two very different creative environments together allows her to identify ways to create unique pieces in both structure and design.
